Kairosz quartet

KairoszKairosz was formed and gave its debut concert in November of 2004 in "FONÓ" (Budapest).

The present members of Kairosz are:

   Gyermán Júlia – violin
   Molnár Zsófia – violin
   Cs. Nagy Tamás – viola
   Sipos Gergő – cello
   Vedres Csaba – keyboards

At the time Kairosz was created, the viola player was Fodor Tamás. In our first three concerts we tried the blending of electronic and acoustic music, however, the response was not altogether what we would have liked.

In March, 2005, Fodor Tamás left the group due to his many other obligations.  It was an amicable parting, and his role at the time of the formation of the group is much appreciated. In May, 2005, Móré László played one concert with us and around the same time, we found our present viola player, Cs. Nagy Tamás.

In May 2005, Kairosz changed its style to a pure acoustic sound and since then, all of our concerts are given in a classical piano quintet setting.

What is the aim of Kairosz? It is to perform accessible contemporary classical music. We are confident that the elevation of rock music as a common musical language in the realm of 'high culture' would generate a boost to the present crisis of classical contemporary music.

The controversial situation of Kairosz stems from this point. Those who wish to be entertained by our music, will be disappointed, since the music of Kairosz is unsuitable as entertaining or background music. On the other hand, those who expect "standard classical music" will be disappointed as well, since the works of Mozart, Schubert or Bartók are not part of our repertoire.

The long-term goal of Kairosz is to occupy a mid-point position in the musical life, similarly to the Brodsky or Kronos Quartets.

The members of Kairosz quartet are all educated musicians graduated from the Academy of Music, who play in various symphonic and chamber orchestras.

Our first CD, entitled Blessed time, was released in 2006. The CD, among others, contains a four-movement piano quintet as well as arrangements of two rock pieces: Toxicity of the System of a Down and The Siren Song of Van Der Graaf Generator. Our second CD Give my regards to Chick Corea – Children's Songs variations (2007) contains arrangements of Corea's piano cycle for piano and piano quintet as well as musical commentaries inspired by the pieces.

Since our formation we have presented our program in various venues in Hungary. Our ensemble is a regular guest of the annual Festival of the Reformed Music (Budapest). We have gave concerts in the Academy of Music (Budapest) as well as in the Valley of Arts festival (Kapolcs); in the September of 2008, we kept a joint evening with Kovács-Cohner Róbert poet.
